“All Are Welcome In This Place”

What to Expect When Visiting St. Andrew’s

New to St. Andrew’s?
We all were new at one time, and we remember what it was like! so we’ve provided the information below, knowing that it’s easier to venture into a new place when you know what to expect.

About Us
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church is a vibrant, exciting congregation in the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana which is comprised of congregations in the northern half of the state of Indiana. Our diocese is a part of a confederation of other dioceses which make up the Episcopal Church in the United States.
The Episcopal Church, in turn, is a part of an international fellowship of faith known as the Anglican Communion made up of independent national Churches related historically to the Church of England. We are a community of faith dedicated to living out our mission “worshipping Christ, growing together, and serving others.”  We have a long history of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Valparaiso, Indiana and the surrounding communities.

Weekend Worship
.For those new to St. Andrew’s worship services, we have many volunteers ready to make sure you are welcomed and feel comfortable when you arrive. St. Andrew’s offers three opportunities for worship each weekend:

•The 5:30p.m. service on Saturday is a Rite II Eucharist, but there is no music during this service;
•At 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, the service is a Rite I service. This service is quiet and contemplative. Following this service is a brief time of fellowship in the Gathering Space.
 •The 10:00am service on Sunday is a Rite II Eucharist, with a choir and traditional hymns sung throughout the service. A time of fellowship follows this service.
Please Note: On the first Sunday of the month, there is only ONE worship service held at 9:00am, (no Saturday evening service), and is followed by a brunch in the Gathering Space. This allows our parish family to worship all together at one service once a month, along with the opportunity to get to know each other better.

Don’t worry if you’ve never been to an Episcopal worship service.  Printed worship bulletins include the entire service and the words and music for any hymns. This makes it easy for anyone to follow along with our worship.  Also, don’t worry about what to wear.  God looks at the interior of our heart, not the exterior of our clothing!

Our congregation spans a range of ages and backgrounds. The priest and lay ministers wear vestments (robes), but the people in the pews dress in all styles—from jeans to business suits. St. Andrew’s offers liturgical worship that features quiet reflection and traditional hymns.

Each service lasts for approximately one hour. During each worship service, there is an opportunity to greet the people sitting around you, but no one will single you out as a visitor.
