Pentecost is one of the most important days on the Church Calendar; a Christian holy day that refers to the coming of the Holy Spirit shortly after Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension, 50 days after Easter. This is the day that the apostles went out among the people and began spreading Jesus’ message in all languages, and is known as the “birthday” of the Christian church. The Day of Pentecost is one of the 7 principal feasts of the church year in the Episcopal Church, and the season of Pentecost goes until the first Sunday in Advent.

Red recalls the tongues of fire in which the Holy Spirit descended on the first Pentecost, and symbolizes the love of the Holy Spirit, so we invite you to wear red to church this weekend!
